Description

The Sunda Clouded Leopard is a medium sized wild cat endemic to the island of Borneo. As an apex predator, it possesses exceptional climbing abilities and moves with agility both in the forest canopy and on the ground. The species requires large, intact, and connected tropical forests, although it may still occur in habitats with limited modification.

Dense perennial forest, including peat swamps, lowland forests, and hill forests.

Behaviour

The Sunda Clouded Leopard is a powerful, large cat with strong climbing skills (indeed some people do not consider it a small cat). Active mostly at night and twilight, it uses both ground and canopy, and requires large, continuous forest blocks.

Diet

Preys on medium-sized mammals such as bearded pigs, deer, primates, and smaller mammals, as well as birds. It is considered an Apex predator in its habitat.

Physical Characteristics

Body and Build

The largest felid in Borneo and far bigger than the other small cat species. Its long tail and powerful limbs allow it to climb and descend trees head-first. Despite its size, it remains highly agile.
